Public Holidays Guide<\/h2>\n

There are 11 public holidays every year in New Zealand. In addition, most employees get four weeks of paid vacation, usually taken in January, when many businesses in Auckland essentially shut down. These are New Zealand\u2019s official bank holidays. Also note, that the annual sickness leave allowance in New Zealand is only officially 5 days. Auckland Anniversary Day<\/strong>
\nCommemorates Auckland \u2013 New Zealand\u2019s first capital city — founding by Lieutenant Governor William Hobson on January 29, 1840.<\/p>\n

Waitangi Day
\n<\/strong>Commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, an agreement for land sharing between the Maori people and the New Zealand government, on April 6, 1840.<\/p>\n

ANZAC Day
\n<\/strong>Commemorates the day Kiwi and Australian forces landed at Gallipoli, in the Ottoman Empire, on April 25, 1915. A day of remembrance and honoring the military.<\/p>\n

Queen’s Birthday
\n<\/strong>The day Queen Elizabeth II\u2019s birthday is commemorated – observed the first Monday in June.<\/p>\n

Labour Day
\n<\/strong>Day to honor New Zealand’s workers, observed the fourth Monday in October.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
